Bordes vivos. Límites cognoscitivos del centro de Mexicali

Abstract

En el presente trabajo analiza la importancia de los límites cognoscitivos dentro de la percepción y cognición del paisaje como un ingrediente fundamental para el estudio y comprensión del paisaje urbano en Mexicali, B.C. Se define el concepto de lugar a partir de sus connotaciones espaciales y existenciales. Se describe al límite como un diferenciador de espacios al separar dos entidades que presentan características diferentes o contradictorias en donde se establecen intercambios sumamente dinámicos. Asimismo, se apunta la indisolubilidad entre lugar y borde; y se proponen tres aproximaciones al concepto de límite; la idea de separación, asociada a la pertenencia social y/o espacial a una determinada entidad; la noción de interrelación o articulación, ligada al carácter de comunicación e intercambio, y la última, relacionada con la idea de término o confín, connotación que implica la zona que separa lo conocido de lo desconocido. Se plantea que el centro como lugar, y los límites cognoscitivos, son también objeto de la investigación urbana y el paisaje. Finalmente se propone un método para examinar los límites cognoscitivos del centro antiguo de Mexicali, como base para la comprensión del paisaje y para identificar las diferencias establecidas por grupos de edad y de género en la conformación de la imagen.

The present work approaches the importance that play the cognitive limits inside the perception and cognition of the landscape like a fundamental ingredient for the study and understanding of the urban landscape in Mexicali, B.C. Defines the place concept starting from their space connotations and existential. Describes the limit like a differentiating of spaces when separating two entities that present different or contradictory characteristics where extremely dynamic exchanges settle down. Also, it aims the indissolubility between place and border; and it proposes three approaches to the limit concept; the idea of separation is associated to the social and/or spatial acceptance to a determined entity; the second approach goes to the interrelation or articulation join to the communication character and exchange and the last one, related with the idea of term or confine, connotation that implies the zone separate the well-known of unknown. Establish the center like place and the cognitive limits are also object of the urban investigation and the landscape. Finally proposes a method to approach the cognitive limits of the old center of Mexicali, like base for the understanding of the landscape to identify the differences settled down by age groups and gender in the conformation of the image.
