Dificultades para leer un poema

Abstract

Leer poesía es una actividad cognoscitiva erizada de dificultades. La mayoría de los estudiantes que ingresan a la Especialización en Literatura Mexicana del Siglo xx o que cursan la Maestría o incluso la han terminado, han ignorado o ignoran el arte de leer poesía. Me propongo en este artículo examinar las dificultades, tanto del lector como del poema, para entender la poesía. El desconocimiento de la sintaxis y un contexto social adverso son quizá las mayores dificultades del lector. De parte del poema, enumero ocho dificultades específicas, que se derivan de una dificultad general: la abundancia de información. La poesía es el género de escritura con mayor abundancia de información existente porque lo no dicho es con frecuencia más importante que lo explícito. Exponer estos problemas pueden ser parte de la solución.

Reading Poetry is a cognitive exercise bristling with difficulties. Most of the students starting the Specialization in Mexican Literature of the 20th Century, or studying a Master’s degree, or even having finished it, have ignored or still ignore the art of reading Poetry. My aim in this paper is to examine the difficulties to understand Poetry, both for the reader and for the poem. Lack of knowledge of syntax and an adverse social context are perhaps the greatest obstacles for the reader. I list eight specific difficulties coming from the poems themselves, all arising from a greater one: the abundance of information. Poetry is the writing genre with more abundance of information, because the implicit is often more important than the explicit. To evidence these problems could be the beginninig of the solution
