Magia y ritual en Pobre negro de Rómulo Gallegos

Abstract

La magia y el ritual juegan un papel muy importante en la cultura de la población de origen africano, cuya fuerza social fue decisiva en la formación histórica de Venezuela a partir del contexto de su independencia y del proceso azaroso de su identidad nacional. El arco temporal de la novela Pobre negro tiene por límites los años que van de 1812 a 1858; ambas fechas corresponden a dos etapas de la guerra, la primera por la Independencia, y la segunda, a la prolongada guerra civil. El ritual de los tambores marca el inicio de los momentos culminantes de la novela; la problemática del negro esclavo y su emancipación son el eje de esta historia.

Magic and ritual play a very important role in the culture of the population of African origin, whose social power was decisive in the historical formation of Venezuela from the context of its independence and the random process of its national identity. The time span of the novel black poor has limits the years ranging from 1812-1858, both dates correspond to two stages of the war, the first for independence; and the second, to the prolonged civil war. The ritual of the drums marks the beginning of the highlights of the novel; the problems of the black slave and emancipation are the backbone of this story.
