In the catalytic dehydration reaction of glycerol using zeolite Y as a catalyst, the main products are water, acrolein, acetone, allyl alcohol, acetol and acetaldehyde. In this process, the reaction product with the highest commercial value is acrolein, for its recovery was studied by differential distillation using the commercial simulator Aspen Batch Modeler. Simulations were carried out with variation of maximum temperature in the kettle, operating time, pressure and number of theoretical stages of the column to know the effect of these parameters have on the composition and volume of the distillate obtained, as well as on the molar percentage of recovery of acrolein. For this study, the characteristics of a laboratory differential distillation column were used as input data in the simulator, in order to replicate in the future the conditions and results obtained from the software in this equipment.
