Perspectiva histórica de la relación cerebro-lenguaje

Abstract

La afasia es una alteración del lenguaje que ocurre como consecuencia de daño cerebral en personas que han sido hablantes competentes de su lengua. Los primeros en interesarse en el estudio de la relación cerebro-lenguaje fueron los médicos al cuidado de los pacientes con afasia, quienes hicieron descripciones detalladas tanto clínicas como anatómicas; sin embargo, hasta que las investigaciones se hicieron desde los marcos formales de la lingüística fue posible explicar el habla de los pacientes. Hoy día la perspectiva lingüística se complementa con el punto de vista de la ciencia cognoscitiva. Abstract: Aphasia is a language impairment resulting from cerebral damage in persons who have been competent users of their own language. Doctors caring for the aphasic patients were among the first, who were interested in studying the relationship between brain and language. Although they made detailed clinical and anatomical descriptions, it was until the investigations were made from the linguistic framemark that it was possible to explain the language deficits of the patients.
