El plano oficial de la Ciudad de México en 1900

Abstract

El territorio de la ciudad de México que vemos representado en mapas y planos de principios del siglo XX fue resultado de un proceso de urbanización que comenzó con el régimen de Porfirio Díaz durante el último tercio del siglo XIX. La construcción de la imagen de la ciudad a través de la cartografía da cuenta de las diversas maneras de configurar el discurso acerca del territorio, pues se ofrecen variadas representaciones que hacen alusión o soslayan diferentes aspectos urbanos. En este sentido, la cartografía sobre la capital de México es muestra de los intereses políticos, sociales, económicos que definen y orientan el desarrollo urbano de la misma. El propósito central de este artículo es explorar la representación cartográfica de la Ciudad de México a partir de un plano producido en las postrimerías del siglo XIX, pero que tuvo su difusión iniciado el siglo xx: el Plano Oficial de la Ciudad de México de 1900. Dicho documento cartográfico sirvió de plano base para dar cuenta de las obras y servicios urbanos de la capital, pero también su uso rebasó el ámbito de la Dirección de Obras Públicas y se convirtió en un plano para uso de los ciudadanos.

The territory of Mexico City to see represented in maps of the early twentieth century was the result of an urbanization process that began with the regime of Porfirio Diaz during the last third of the nineteenth century. The construction of the image of the city through mapping realizes the different ways to configure the speech about the territory, as they offer various representations that allude or overlook various urban issues. In this sense, mapping on the capital of Mexico is a sign of the political, social, economic, defining and guiding the urban development of the same. The purpose of this paper is to explore the mapping of Mexico City from a plane produced in the late nineteenthcentury, but had started its spread twentieth century: the Official Plan of the City of Mexico, 1900. This document served as the base plane mapping to account for the work and services in the capital city but also its use beyond the scope of the Public Works Department and became a blueprint for use by citizens.
