Devenir histórico del paisaje en México, reflexiones para su protección

Abstract

Todos los paisajes que miramos hoy se han conformado gracias a un amplio proceso histórico, en el cual se han ido vinculando la cultura y el territorio. Diversas sociedades han elegido valores y con ellos han moldeado el paisaje, de forma que el cúmulo de estas decisiones subyace en su particular y peculiar morfología. Un paisaje es historia y es patrimonio cultural. Sin pretender ser exhaustivo, pero reconociendo la complejidad que implica la tarea de conceptualizar el paisaje —por su cualidad dinámica como expresión de la naturaleza y debido a la inmensidad de valores culturales que lo transfiguran en el tiempo— este texto presenta una descripción del devenir del paisaje mexicano, a través de la selección de algunos momentos en donde se identifican, por una parte, valores constantes y, por otra, cambios significativos que lo caracterizan. Las expresiones del paisaje en México aquí descritas se localizaron en manifestaciones históricas o artísticas que denotan diferentes imaginarios simbólicos, considerando que éstos expresan los cambios en los valores que han guiado su apreciación y estructura. El reconocimiento de estos valores y su repercusión en la morfología son indispensables para comprender el paisaje mexicano en toda su magnitud, más allá de lo aparente o visible y, sobre todo, para asegurar que su conservación contribuya en realidad al enriquecimiento cultural. Así, se hace un recorrido por varios momentos clave en la construcción del paisaje mexicano que, en conjunto, conducen a una reflexión sugerente sobre la situación actual y a la propuesta de un mejor lenguaje de acercamiento al territorio, que sea clave en el camino hacia su protección y salvaguarda.

Every landscape we see today has been shaped through a broad historical process linked with culture and territory. Several societies have selected values; with which they have molded landscape so that the accumulation of these decisions underlies in the peculiar morphology. Each landscape is history and cultural patrimony. Without intending to sound exhaustive, but acknowledging the complexity that represents the task of conceptualizing landscape for its dynamic quality as an expression of nature and for the vastness of cultural values that alter it through time, this text contains a description of Mexicanlandscape through the selection of some moments in which it is possible to identify, on one side, constant values, and on the other, significant changes that characterize it. The expressions of landscapes in Mexico that are described, were in historical and artistic manifestations that denote different symbolic imaginaries, considering these express the changes in the values that have guided their appreciation and structure. The recognition of these values and their repercussions on morphology is crucial for understanding Mexican landscape in all its magnitude, beyond the apparent and the visible, especially to ensure that its conservation really contributes to cultural enrichment. A tour is made through several key moments in the construction of Mexican landscape, that altogether take us through a reflection, which suggests today’s situation and the proposal of better language for approaching territory that can be key for guiding its protection and safeguarding.
