Historia, islas y cultura: el paisaje maravilloso de Alejo Carpentier

Abstract

Este artículo nos acerca a la profunda narrativa del escritor Alejo Carpentier. Nos permite entender la modernidad y el crisol de culturas que se dieron en el Caribe americano, desde el descubrimiento del Nuevo Mundo (1492) hasta los destellos de la Revolución francesa y la Ilustración, y su repercusión en los procesos de independencia de América Latina a inicios del siglo xix. Es el acercamiento a esta época a través de lo real maravilloso americano que aparece en obras como: El reino de este mundo (1949) y El siglo de las luces (1962), que muestran nuestra realidad singular y la construcción de una conciencia americana.

This article approach us to the deep narrative of the writer Alejo Carpentier. It allows us to understand the modernity and the melting pot of cultures, that take part in the American Caribbean, since the discovery of the New World (1492) to the sparkles of the French revolution and the Illustration, and the effect that it had in the Independent movements of Latin America in the beginning of the XIX century. It’s the close up to these times through the real wonderful American that appears in books like: The kingdom of this world (1949) The Century of the lights (1962), that show our singular reality and the construction of an American conscious.
