- El diseño sostenible como una solución al problema de la contaminación por plástico en México(Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (México). Unidad Azcapotzalco. División de Ciencias y Artes para el Diseño., 2024-12) Soto Walls, Luis Jorge; Acero, GerardoThe problem of plastic pollution in Mexico is serious, and although it has been investigated by multiple disciplines, most focus on promoting recycling, with very few addressing the issue at its source, especially with an integrated approach involving design, sustainability, and circular economy perspectives. Each discipline has made valuable contributions to understand the phenomenon and propose possible solutions, but they have often remained within their respective fields of study. Medical research indicates that plastic containers and packaging used for food release toxins that harm both humans and animals, suggesting avoidance. Environmental studies warn that the combination of various types of plastic waste with organic waste in open dumps and landfills produces dangerous gases and liquids that contaminate water, soil, and air in surrounding areas. This pollution leads to significant environmental imbalance and severe illnesses in humans and animals. Legal research advocates for increasingly strict laws and regulations, as the volume of plastic waste continues to grow, surpassing the capacity of selection plants and transfer stations in Mexico.
