    Currently in Juchitán Oaxaca, the Vernacular Architecture has been losing its importance due to rapid population growth, which has required parallel creation of new housing, this translates in two important respects: the self-construction and industrialization, with performed adopting imported building models. That do not provide adequate needs environmental of the region and impact on the traditions, cultural and architectural values of society. The Contemporary Architecture has been forgotten the constructive formal elements that provided the environmental comfort offered by Vernacular Architecture, this seen in the low environmental comfort of the interiors of the existing buildings. To establish the strengths and weaknesses of the architecture of Juchitán, was studied the Vernacular Architecture by comparing it with the Contemporary. was selected most common building systems in the region, the first case was a dwelling with Vernacular Architecture employing brick walls and wooden ceiling, the second case was performed with Contemporary Architecture elaborate with concrete slab and brick walls, and finally (also Contemporary) the third case with concret block walls and concrete slab. Measurements were made of the weather condition both on the season cold and warm and be made a thermal simulation through a computer program to know what material was better suited to the climatic conditions of the place, was evaluated in these buildings the thermal behavior, providing results that showing significant differences between three case. This research determined the bioclimatic properties of vernacular building elements and were revalued the formal characteristics to achieve strategies design basic to improve the thermal comfort of a home in the warm humid climate of Juchitán.
