Abstract
The paper will explore the importance of flexible public spaces in the urban environment, discussing their benefits, challenges and outstanding examples of successful implementation. To begin, the concept of flexible public spaces will be analyzed in the context of emerging trends in urban planning and design, such as tactical urbanism, citizen participation and the creation of resilient and sustainable cities. Key design and planning principles that enable the creation of adaptable public spaces will be addressed, including multifunctionality, accessibility, community engagement, and
the use of innovative materials and technolo gies. This will be followed by a series of case studies of flexible public spaces from around the world. These examples will illustrate how reconfiguration and adaptability can manifest in a variety of ways, from urban squares and
parks that can accommodate a variety of activities and events, to shared streets and transit spaces that can adjust to the changing needs of traffic and pedestrians. It will also address the challenges and obstacles
associated with the implementation of flexible public spaces. This will include issues such as financing, regulation and governance, as well as the need to balance flexibility with the preservation of local identity and character. Strategies and approaches to overcome these challenges and ensure the long-term success of flexible public spaces will be discussed.
Finally, the presentation will conclude with a reflection on the future of flexible public spaces in the urban environment and how these adaptive approaches can contribute to the development of more inclusive, sustainable and resilient cities. Questions will be raised about how urban planning.
