Abstract
This research work analyses the relationship between natural light and architecture and proposes to retake and value the natural resources of the environment to integrate them in the design process of the architectural object. Natural light is fundamental in the life of living beings. In humans, it generates visual effects, that allow us to perceive the environment; and non-visual effects that regulate the physiological, psychological, and emotional functions of people; it is essential for the health and quality of living of users through the visual and luminous comfort. This research analysed and evaluated a case study: the workshop of architect Augustin Hernandez, which has elements to admit natural light into the interior of architectural spaces through zenithal and lateral lighting, in addition to the skill in the management of geometry. Illuminance levels in the case study spaces were monitored for several periods. The results obtained indicated that the illuminance levels are appropriate for the realization of the various visual tasks of the users, without the use of artificial light sources during the working day and a reduction in the use of electric lighting is inferred, and therefore, a saving and efficient use of energy in the building investigated.
