Los conceptos de verdad y objetividad en la fotografía documental, asumidos tradicionalmente y en el imaginario social como absolutos, han transitado, a partir de una nueva realidad profesional y tecnológica, hacia un cuestionamiento de sus significados. Derivamos de ello que en el fotoperiodismo contemporáneo conviven múltiples connotaciones de estos conceptos que pueden ser abordados o analizados en función de la complejidad del ejercicio profesional, de la forma de percibir y procesar la realidad, y de los objetivos del editor o el fotógrafo: La realidad no es única o absoluta; es tamizada por la percepción, la conciencia individual o colectiva y por la evolución en las posibilidades tecnológicas para el registro y comunicación de hechos, expresados a partir de los diferentes significados de la imagen y el lenguaje fotográfico.
