Recientemente, ha surgido un nuevo reto para todos aquellos especialistas involucrados en realizar la transferencia de los instrumentos de evaluación tradicional a los nuevos espacios de aprendizaje, como las Presentaciones Multimedia Instruccionales (PMI), pues aun cuando hay estudios que respaldan la noción popular de que la multimedia ayuda a aprender, no existe, hasta el momento, evidencia suficiente para saber en qué condiciones puede hacerlo. Pero más allá de estas inquietudes, está también presente la manera en cómo habrá que evaluar el aprendizaje de los usuarios de estos entornos. Habrá que ir más allá de la mera inclusión de los avances tecnológicos per se, lo cual sería insuficiente. El objetivo es mucho más amplio que eso. Nos encontramos ante el reto de utilizar, adecuadamente, las posibilidades que nos brinda la tecnología multimedia, para ofrecer, no sólo un aprendizaje más significativo del que pueden proveer los materiales didácticos de características tradicionales, sino evaluaciones acordes con los materiales presentados que faciliten este complejo proceso. Para tal fin, es necesario, pues, que haya coherencia entre los elementos que intervienen en el diseño de los materiales de la acción docente y las funcionalidades del entorno virtual. Por lo tanto, esta investigación pretende generar conocimiento al analizar, bajo ciertos parámetros, la manera en que el diseño de los diferentes tipos de autoevaluaciones aplicados a los usuarios de PMI se benefician o no, con la incorporación de elementos multimedia de manera que se pueda robustecer su diseño y que a su vez, sirva de guía para el desarrollo de este tipo de herramientas de evaluación, imprescindibles en todo proceso educativo.
