This thesis aims to identify the factors that affect the development of bioclimatic housing in urban environments of Mexico and based on this to propose alternative to promote it. The thesis comprises six chapters according to the hypotheses and objectives. The first five chapters cover the research and focus on the different aspects that affect the development of bioclimatic housing, such that: it analyzes the historical context that gave origin to the different housing models and the current situation the country; it considers governmental advocacy media (books, funding programs and regulations); it evaluates the level of bioclimatic knowledge in three cities representing major climates of Mexico (Mexico City, Hermosillo and Villahermosa); it examines curricula and the characteristics of the architecture schools of the country; and discusses the different stages of bioclimatic design. In the sixth and final chapter, the research findings are structured in a comprehensive plan for the development and promotion of Bioclimatic Design applied to Urban Houses in Mexico; in which the problems are identified and objectives, strategies and lines of action are established, in order to promote the development of bioclimatic house in urban Mexico. La presente tesis tiene como finalidad identificar los factores que afectan el desarrollo de la vivienda bioclimática en los entornos urbanos de México y con base a esto proponer alternativas para fomentarlo. La tesis comprende seis capítulos de acuerdo a las hipótesis y los objetivos. Los primeros cinco capítulos comprenden la parte de investigación y se enfocan en los diferentes aspectos que afectan el desarrollo de la vivienda bioclimática; de tal forma que: se analiza el contexto histórico que dio origen a los diferentes modelos de vivienda, así como la situación actual del país; se examinan los medios gubernamentales de promoción (Guías, programas de financiamiento y normatividad); se evalúa el nivel de conocimiento bioclimático en tres ciudades representativas de los climas más importantes de México (Ciudad de México, Hermosillo y Villahermosa); se examinan los planes de estudio y las características de las escuelas de arquitectura del país; y se analizan las diferentes etapas del proceso de diseño bioclimático. En el sexto y último capítulo, los resultados de la investigación se presentan estructurados en un Plan Integral para el desarrollo y fomento del Diseño Bioclimático aplicado a la Vivienda Unifamiliar Urbana en México, en el cual se identifican las problemáticas, se establecen objetivos, estrategias y líneas de acción; con el fin de impulsar el desarrollo de la vivienda bioclimática unifamiliar en el México urbano.
