In this work, the synthesis of ZnAl(O) mixed oxides with a molar ratio Zn/Al=2 was developed by the solution combustion method, using sucrose as fuel at 450 ºC. 12 hours thermal treatments were made to remove carbon vestiges. Tests were done to prove the formation of a layered double hydroxide structure intercalated with carbonates, by varying the contact-time between a mixed oxide and a sodium carbonate solution, from 1 to 24 hours The minimum time for getting the structure was found. Physicochemical properties were characterized by XRD, FTIR, TGA, SEM, EDS and nitrogen physisorption. Solution combustion method is a quick and easy way to prepare mixed oxides, assuring particle size control by changing the fuel identity and the synthesis temperature. Later, a thermal treatment was given to remove carbon residuals and guarantee a high-purity product.
