A new literary search found in the narrative transculturation an
alternative to regionalism, which allowed integration of tradition
and innovation to realize the originality of Latin American literature
from a geographical environment, social and ethnic culture
different from the Old Continent. If the oral literature characterized
many of the writers of this movement in Latin America,
João Guimarães Rosa was a paradigm of this school. Consciously,
this narrator linguist, polyglot, civil and military doctor, a career
diplomat, plenipotentiary minister, resolved the dilemma of the
latinamerican literature behind the play of irony and intelligence.
Guimarães Rosa has been compared to James Joyce and Rulfo. The
work for which he was recognized internationally Gran Sertón:
Veredas is the Brazilian allegory of the legendary monologue that
introduces this marginal world, clash of barbarism and civilization,
which shows an inner peripheral country that evokes the nation
in the backcountry. It does so with a simple anecdote, enriched
with the exuberance of his language, simile of the rich Brazilian
culture, coupled with the mythical-symbolic aspect that recreates
the values of this society, which is reflected in the traditional folk
culture, but with an international cosmogonical vision. He uses
a vocabulary that he invents, he synthesizes with morphological
alterations, that results in an exceptional poetic rhythm.
