Abstra ct
This article centers on how the critical reception of the novel Don’t look and it won’t
hurt (1972) by the American writer Richard Peck (1934), has only been preoccupied
by one of the narrative’s plot: teenage pregnancy, leaving aside another
aspect that, 20 years later, filmmaker Allison Anders (1954) will explore in her cinematic
adaptation Gas Food Lodging (1992). For the author, the film signifies a
broader reading of the novel, commonly associated with Young Adult Literature,
in the sense that it recovers and addresses the social criticism present in the original
source.
