Plasma polymerized pyrrole (PPPy) is a polymer with biological applications, such as the regeneration of traumatic injuries of the spinal cord. It has been proposed that PPPy can interact with various extracellular matrix proteins such as integrin αvβ3. In this work, we performed a computational model for the interaction of the integrin αvβ3 with PPPy by docking analysis. A combinatorial system was used between nitrile (C≡N) and amino (NH₂) functional groups on the PPPy structure proposed by Kumar et al. (2003), obtaining six different combinations. In these complexes, it was observed that Asp 227 generated a negatively charged environment to attract PPPy. In addition, the binding energy (ΔGu) was determined for these complexes, where the electrostatic contributions were the most favorable. These results complement those obtained from in vivo assays, which together amplify the panorama for future research about for the development of materials with biomedical applications.
