Coordination polymers, also known as organic metal networks, are salid materials constituted by a metallic center (Lewis acid) and an organic binder (Lewis base). Among the metals that are used for the synthesis of these polymers are rare earths, such as europium. The aim of this work is to report the synthesis of a coordination polymer with europium and the ligand 1,10 phenanthroline; and the characterization (X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and gravimetric thermal analysis) of the material. Which was synthesized under ambient temperature conditions and with solvents of low or no toxicity. The synthesis of a crystalline material with characteristic transitions of the Eu³⁺ ion and with an emission between red and blue was achieved.
