During the last few decades, the world has suffered strong devastations, result of the wrong usage of the technological development and of the irrational exploitation of the natural resources; the results are manifested in phenomena such as the rise of the sea level, higher environmental temperatures and rainfall, among others. The previous is a result of the permanent loss of sensibility towards the environment; this, started mainly during the Industrial Revolution and its effects in the human being. Nowadays, the irrational waste of the fossil fuels and the excessive consumption of energy have provoked the negative alienation of the environmental stability. Nevertheless, as an alternative in front of this scene, there is the integral sustainability of architecture, a concept that involves the connection of various spheres in the creation and use of buildings with the purpose of being autonomous and in equilibrium with the environment; that along with the application of bioclimatic criteria, tends to obtain the maximum benefit of the natural resources, without putting in risk their continuity. The highest practice of this tendency, are the offshore islands, small isolated areas where we can find available natural resources of high value, such as: solar radiation, wind, rainfall, and in some cases the influence of different movements of the sea (tides, waves, ocean currents, etc.) and their existence for the development of clean and appropriated conditions for the built environment. Considering the previous, in the current research I have considered as a case of study, the National Park “Isla Contoy” in the State of Quintana Roo; because its very own features, it stands out its geographic location and its climatic phenomena; aspects that facilitate the initiative of a sustainable island in the Mexican Territory, emphasizing that the main goal of this research has being developed around a friendly guide that in a general way takes into consideration the criteria of a bioclimatic and sustainable design that could be applicable to any island of the national territory with the object of getting a sustainability and integral autonomy offshore. It is of interest to mention that because the nature of this context, its application also could benefit the disperse and distant Mexican communities, that are isolated and not easy to access; because their lack of basic services, such as: electricity, water, and drainage connected to a conventional network.
